Outsourcing Your Rehab For Larger Profits

By Jazzy Jest

Many rehab CEO's are wondering how much longer they can keep their doors open. The reason for this is that they are seeing far less profits than they did in 2010. Medical billing is changing around the world. We are now under ICD-10 and it's gotten a lot of people confused and wondering if they can make this a success. A medical billing company today is said to be able to produce a lot of results. It is not uncommon for a medical billing company to lose 30% of its profits in a single year. The new codes make it harder to collect.

It is estimated that 1 out of every 3 treatment centers will see their center being audited by an insurance company this year. It is mainly due to the fact that new regulations are put into effect. ICD-10 coding is a system in which took over ICD-9. The codes are longer and often more complex than what you are seeing right now. Try to remember that it is not easy to have a treatment center today. Most owners say that they are not seeing a good return on their investment. It is now becoming less of a money maker.

It is important to have our own internal audits when it comes to medical billing. Ask your billers or outsourced company more about your utilization management. What have you learned this year about your business that you did not know last year? When it comes to turning a profit, rehabs want to know how to get to the next level. Straightening out your medical billing is the first step to your success.

It is important to ask your in house biller serious questions. Find out how well they know their job. If they never heard of ICD-10, you may as well fire them. Today's standards require you to use ICD-10. It takes a lot of experience to do well working with these codes. Most in house billers are not familiar with these new codes. However, the healthcare industry is finding that outsourced companies seem like they are better trained in handling outsourced claims.

Most coders that work for treatment centers are seeing claims being returned to them. It is hard to imagine your hard work getting rejected over and over again. Many treatment centers are asking themselves if it's worth having an in house billing team at all. What should you do? In my opinion, you should set up a conference call with a company that claims that they can get you a higher return than you are getting right now.
