Sell Art With Postcard Mailers

By Matthew Kelly

In the age of electronic mail being the number one method of communication for nearly a decade, there is still a place for the traditional snail mail. Often a new entrepreneur may think of email as being the fastest, and least expensive, but there is also a place for tangible communication. Postcard mailers are an effective method for sending announcements and events using visual communication.

This can be a nice surprise to those expecting to find the usual bills and what some consider junk mail. Seeing a logo or image that relates to the things they enjoy can change their current frame of thought. Clear photos that depict those things that most find pleasurable like animals, nature, or even their favorite foods.

At one time, people used generic white postcards for business mailings because it was inexpensive and printing services may have required a minimal order. The problem with homemade mailers is that these can look cheap. The paper used is not only lightweight but is not recommended for printing photos, as details can be blurry.

These are all positive experiences that are welcome most of the time. A real estate agent may send postcards announcing an open house with the interior of a gorgeous home that is on the market to a select group. One recipient may not be ready at the moment but keeps the card because this could change. Had the picture not been clear or the interior been average, at best, the card would be ineffective for driving new business.

For the visual artist looking to build their clientele or announce a gallery opening, these are great promotional tools. New and established creatives use photo cards for event announcements, to sell a particular product or service. By adding their best work to the cover, fans may collect the postcards and save these as a keepsake. While electronic communication is also effective, seeing something on the screen does not provide the same aesthetic.

Although sending announcements electronically may cost little to nothing, the experience is not quite the same. This also goes for those who attempt to create mailing postcards at home. Few home printers can produce enough of the original details for multiple cards that will be visually appealing. This may work with textual documents intended for a small group of people.

Many professional printers have reasonable rates and can produce work quickly in time for events or product releases. Additionally, some services will accommodate those who need a small batch of postcards. For the business that is just getting started with their marketing, it may be best to order enough to do a test run.

New technology allows most professional printers to give customers a preview of the product. They also have the tools to make slight photo edits to enhance image quality and will offer recommendations for the best images to submit. Many do this because they realize the demand and want as much repeat business as they can handle.
