You Can Get Rid Of Pesky Mosquitos With EPA Approved Mosquito Remedies

By Guy Stannard

Mosquitoes need an astonishingly small amount of water to complete their rapid life cycle. This adaptation has allowed them to live in most locations on earth, and to thrive despite massive eradication measures. Bucks County PA mosquito control agents participate in the continuing effort to shield human beings from the legitimate threat of insect-transmitted diseases.

While government plays a key role, the primary defense involves residents taking personal action. Before warm weather stimulates hatching, homeowners can measurably limit the numbers of new pests simply by removing standing water that has collected in small buckets, roof gutters, toys, or any small outdoor container. This breaks the cycle, and reduces numbers.

When outdoors, the Environmental Protection Agency highly recommends applying a repellent as a personal defense. Repellents contain pesticides that do not actually kill, but rather create a protective aura around the areas where they are used. They can be applied in liquid or aerosol form, or spread by burning infused candles or accessories.

A rainy spring encourages a population explosion of mosquitoes, and the ensuing swarms can make life difficult for residents. The EPA publishes regulations and guidelines concerning the widespread use of pesticides for control, and actively encourages local officials to follow them when potential outbreaks of illness outweigh established environmental policies.

Even though the agency rarely recommends using chemicals that can affect the environment for decades, they actively support local eradication outreach efforts, and provide analysis of both medical and environmental records that can help predict an upsurge. If aerial spraying becomes necessary for public safety, the work is handled locally.

Rather than spraying indiscriminately, which encourages resistance to pesticides, mosquito control agents are encouraged to develop integrated pest management processes that feature environmentally sound processes. Pesticides are still used locally and effectively, but usually as a last resort when other methods fail to keep the populations in check.
