Anyone who's been on Reddit, for any length of time, will be familiar with AMAs. Also known as "Ask Me Anything" threads, these are created for the purpose of celebrity interaction with said website's massive audience. To say that they have become popular would be an understatement, as they span all types of subject matter as well. However, in order for certain threads to be made even more popular, I believe that a social media agency can prove to be useful.
"Ask Me Anything" threads are amongst the most popular topics on Reddit. These are designed in order to allow Reddit users the opportunity to ask various public figures a number of questions. Someone who's in game design may be asked about current or future projects; conversation can even deviate in order to include their favorite colors. As one can imagine, these AMAs are diverse and to say that they cover ground would be an understatement.
In fact, it's been due to these AMAs that many users have registered on Reddit to begin with. This is the main selling point that this website has, over others which spur interaction, meaning that Reddit is something of a social media platform in its own right. Not only are celebrities able to converse with users, during AMAs, but conversation can spread to topics to make things more interesting. Of course, not everything is off-limits, which is what I'd like to get into next.
With all of this said, you may be curious to know how a social media agency can play into things. As reputable firms such as fishbat can tell you, there is a tremendous degree of weight that goes into PR, which is even truer for celebrities. They must be able to conduct themselves in the best of ways, which isn't always the easiest of endeavors. However, with the proper authorities to help celebrities along, there will be a lesser chance of the wrong things being said in any AMA.
It's easy to see why AMAs have become so popular, in this day and age. They allow Reddit users to interact with celebrities, when they probably wouldn't have been able to otherwise, and the immediacy cannot be overlooked. However, those who take part in these conversations, answering questions on a regular basis, should drive as much awareness as possible. It's for this reason that I could see social media agencies becoming more involved in the future.
