Enterprise Architect TOGAF Training Tips

By Deana Norton

Companies who want to increase efficiency and enhanced productivity turn to an architecture and methodology framework. It is known as The Open Group Architecture Forum, identified as TOGAF, and can be learned through Enterprise Architect TOGAF Training. They have the opportunity of signing on for training sessions that are useful, helpful, and sometimes necessary, for first-time users. They come away with the requisite knowledge to move on to applying what they have learned, all the while enhancing their credibility and effectiveness during the application process of the software. In short, TOGAF is of major benefit.

The Open Group Architecture Forum was first published in 1995 and was based on the US Department of Defense Technical Architecture Framework for Information Management (TAFIM). From there, there have been several successive versions released into the market. Most recently is TOGAF 9.1. The 9.1 version is the method and supporting resources used for developing an Enterprise Architecture. It can be used by any organization no matter where in the world they are, whether or not they are members of The Open Group. Of course, this is subject to licensing conditions.

What the software essentially does is to support Enterprise Architecture that is used for business modelling. It is a great resource that can only benefit from specific training and is thus offered worldwide. Users do not have to be Open Group members, but there are licensing requirements to which one must adhere.

Speaking of accredited training courses, there are some companies that offer full on courses on the whole TOGAF 9 framework. These courses are handled by highly experienced senior architecture practitioners who have deep knowledge of The Open Group Architecture Forum. At the end of the courses, the students should have adequate knowledge on the concepts needed to implement the program within their organization.

The version 9.1 Level 1 and Level 2 course lasts for 4 days and is done in a classroom setting. It's very hands-on and covers the entire framework, even if you have no previous knowledge. In this sense, it's very suitable for beginners. Throughout the course, the students will be given real-life and practical situations to work around, thus helping them to learn the application procedures of the framework. After the course, there is an examination which will earn the student's the certification once passed.

You will need to allot four days for level one and two of the course, which typically takes the form of classroom instruction. The hands-on experience will make students ready, willing, and able to apply the framework, even if they have no prior knowledge. Beginners, intermediates, and advanced analysts are welcome to this practical program. Upon passing an exam, certification is achieved.

If only one of the two levels is needed, then there are courses to cover these needs as well. The Level 1 only course is done online, at any time and at any place. Again, this covers the basic concepts that are needed in order to pass and be certified for The Open Group Architecture Forum Level 1.

Alternatively, if the individual already has prior working knowledge of the basics and wants to expand this with more detailed courses on terminologies and strategies, the Level 2 classroom course is the perfect course. Again, there is an exam after the program for Level 2 certification. Whatever the individual's needs are, there are training courses that will help both the student and the company achieve its goals.
