Steps On How To Make Homemade Essential Oils

Different types of floras can provide important liquids. In ancient times, people use these liquids in therapeutic, culinary, and medicinal aspects. They usually employ several methods to extract these liquids from these floras.

The most common way used is distillation. Since individuals cannot afford expensive commercial oils, an individual could be employing the distillation method in obtain liquid at his own home. The succeeding steps will be helping him on how to make homemade essential oils.

The individual, as a start, needs an apparatus which he will be using for this distillation process. The apparatus consists of four parts, namely the separator, condenser, holding tank or a retort, heat source or a furnace. Each component serves a specific function. The person could be purchasing an apparatus from a hardware store though it might be expensive for him. However, if he will only be producing a little amount of liquid, he could be building his own improvised apparatus, instead.

He should be getting the raw material where he will be extracting the liquid from. It can be a plant, herb, flower, or any other flora. He could be obtaining the plant from his own garden but he must be properly handling it. He could also be purchasing a plant from the market but he should be buying one still in its whole form. Prior to obtaining the material, he must be conducting a research first about the plant type which could be providing him with enough liquid.

The enthusiasts will have to dry their materials so that they can increase their yields. However, they should not place these materials under direct sunlight. Typically, the drying methods for different plants may vary. Ideally, the individuals should dry them under the shades of trees or inside dark rooms. The dried plants should not get wet again before they distill them.

When the drying methods are about to be completed, the tanks should be filled with sufficient clean water, preferably filtered or distilled ones. If commercial stills are available, the instructions of manufacturers on how to use them should be followed. Afterwards, the materials should be completely submerged underwater. These plants should not be cut so that more liquids can be preserved.

After they put the plants inside, the persons should close the lids of the tanks properly and wait for them to boil. These procedures may take around an hour until six hours, which will depend on the types of plants that they will utilize and the amounts of water inside the tanks. Most floras will release their essential liquids after they boil.

After completing the process, he must be filtering the liquid. He needs to be using a cheesecloth or any other type of fabric. He must see to it, though, that the fabric is clean and dry. In this manner, residues such as dirt could not be contaminating the oil.

The person needs to be storing the liquid inside a glass container through a funnel. He could also be using a stainless steel container. He has to see to it that the container is clean prior to doing so. He must be storing the item in a cool and also dark place for it to be lasting for two years.
