Kenai River Lodge Is A Great Place To Catch Some Mighty Salmon

Keen anglers know all about the Kenai Peninsula in Southern Alaska. It's legendary salmon are unusually large and the season lasts all summer. The Kenai River Lodge is the perfect spot for a hassle free angling trip as it has all the amenities you will need right in the heart of the action.

The state of Alaska is synonymous with bears and salmon. The Kenai peninsula has both of these in abundance only a few hours from Anchorage. You could land in the capital in the morning and be fishing in the afternoon. The region is bordered by two stretches of water, has incredible mountain ranges, fjords, glaciers and forest.

In summer there are plenty of visitors around to take advantage of the amazing fishing opportunities. All five species of salmon can be caught in the area. There are two runs of King Salmon with the biggest fish being caught in the second run which starts around the middle of July. The world record King was hauled in there, weighing ninety seven pounds.

There are five species of salmon in the river so plenty of opportunities for great fishing present themselves all through the summer. June is the best time to catch red salmon. These are the species with the highest monetary value as they are preferred for cooking and smoking. Silver salmon also run twice, in August and October. Permits are needed for fishing and are available in many shops in the vicinity or on the internet.

The Kenai Lodge has four hundred feet of waterfront so there is plenty of room for bank fishing. They also provide walkways and stairs for wading, fish cleaning tables, grills, a hanging station and freezer space for the catch. The accommodation is comfortable with river views and there are rooms of all sizes, including a suite.

It is close to the town of Soldotna where there are plenty of shops, restaurants and supermarkets. There are also a couple of visitors centres with information about the region. Hiking trails lead off from the town so if you want to go walking, mountain biking or cross country running it is easy to do. Many tours leave from Soldotna taking tourists on bear watching, expeditions, whale watching and cruises through the fjords.

Soldotna is the nearest town to the lodge and has all the amenities a traveler may need. There are shops and restaurants, museum of local history and information centres for the local parks and wildlife. Several hiking trails leave the town and are accessible by bike. In the summer months there are a range of special events and festivals to enjoy including a beer festival.

Salmon fishing is a huge industry in Alaska as people travel from around the world to experience the bounty of the waters. King Salmon are the most sought out catch on the Kenai and can grow to massive sizes. There are also many other activities in the area such as hiking, bird watching, canoeing and white water rafting.
