How To Effectively Deal With Specially Gifted Children

By Ronald Lewis

Children are a joy to watch and have. These little angels give life and laughter to homes. A home is quiet and dreary without their presence. They are cute and lovable and can be very funny at times. Parents give them special attention as they grow under their watchful gaze. Sadly, there are some who are born with brain deficiencies. One does not have to worry. They can engage the services of a therapist who has child centered play therapy certification.

As children enter into the toddler stage, they will begin to show signs of normalcy. Uncommon behavior becomes apparent at this stage and it will be easy for an observant parent or guardian to see this. Guardian and parent should be very keen on handling this kind of situation. The best action is to refer the case to a medical expert. Even then, some cases are known to have been misdiagnosed as an illness which complicates matters even more.

The challenges of youngsters become complicated as they grow up. This is often caused by the inability of parents to react and understand the tots are experiencing and trying to communicate. This gap between guardians and kids broadens as the older person strongly imposes his or her way of communicating, often times forgetting that they are facing youngsters who have not yet develop their full capacity to speak.

Communicating with children through verbal expressions or spoken words will hinder the tots to a medium that they are still learning and have no mastery yet. It certainly is restrictive and awkward if you come to look at it. It takes years to develop the speech facility and sadly most adults are blind to this and unconsciously assume that kids already have it.

A child who is playing is its way of expression as speech is that of adults. A careful observation of a kid playing will give credence to the theory that it is its way of exploring things, displaying wishes, role playing, expressing emotions, and playing out experiences. Play centered clinical intervention uses the concept of being with the patients rather than forcing it on them.

Toddlers show more of themselves you talk to them about things that they like. Asking first what interests them, what their favorites pets are, their toys, friends will get a more positive reaction compared to being asked about problems they are facing. This approach is directed at developing the kid. This will let them sort out things by communicating it through an avenue that is comfortable and familiar to them.

The development of language in youngsters lags behind the development of their ability for recognition. That is why kids often have imaginary friends. Their world is a world of play, fantasy, imagination, and make believe. This therapy makes use of toys and views them as a means of expression that kids are adept and familiar with. The use of toys allows children to expunge anxieties, fears, and bad feelings to objects rather than to people.

This type of clinical approach makes use of playing to allow kids to find expression of their hidden paradise. Toys are employed as a symbolic representation of actual events that they cannot communicate verbally. This fits well with them. Acting out negative experiences gives will give them an idea of how to face challenges and how to solve problems.

This profession is overseen by the association for play therapy and has three certifications. These are for registered practitioners, therapy supervisors, and last but not least, the school based registered practitioners. To secure a certification one has to be a masters degree holder of child development and teen psychotherapy or its counterpart. Two thousand hours or more of clinical exposure and experience is required from applicants.
